By: Jennifer Turkenburg

The 16th annual Mimico Village BIA Tulip Festival is getting geared up the real spring that awaits us!    Everyone is looking ahead to enjoy the much anticipated unveiling of the 4 foot Tulips decorated by local school children and churches.   The theme this year is ” Canadian Visual Artists”.    The youth were asked to examine the work of an assigned artist,  famous on our native land…and paint it in the likeness or inspiration of that particular artist.  The list is diverse and very impressive.  Perhaps you will discover a new name and want to learn more yourself…

Every year, we patiently wait as the famous tulips are expertly  “planted” along Royal York Road to mark the beginning of the Free and Family Friendly event, always the last Tuesday in May.  You will love the adventure of examining all the new designs while shopping locally at the new and broadening Mimico shops and services.   Browse and you will see how things are evolving!

Along Hay Avenue, which is transformed to “ Entertainment Avenue” will once more have amazing talent on Stage.  And the Wall climber is back!  Check out social media!   You will want to catch the world famous Lady Gaga impersonator ( endorsed by the star herself), drumming and jazz music too!   All ages will love the NEW roaming singing stilt walker who will WOW you with her colourful costumes and charming voice!  She will lead you over to the expanding “Vendor Market” on the corner of Melrose, with Raffle Prizes and a wide array of samples, all from our local stores or entrepreneurs.

Mark the date and join the street party on Tuesday, May 29th, 4-8 pm
